Dry eye can occur when there are too few tears or they evaporate too quickly. An assessment helps identify what is contributing to your discomfort.

One possible contributor is meibomian gland dysfunction, or MGD. These small glands in the eyelids supply the oily part of your tears. When they are not working well, the tear film can become less stable.

At Glasses Lab, our Envision platform offers both Forma-I radiofrequency and Lumecca-I intense pulsed light (IPL). Your clinician will explain whether either treatment, or a combination, is appropriate for your dry-eye findings.

Lumecca-I uses intense pulsed light around the eyes. It may be considered for suitable patients with inflammatory contributors to MGD-related dry eye.
Both technologies are available. Your treatment plan depends on your assessment: having both options does not mean everyone needs both. Results vary; treatment is not suitable for everyone.

Is Envision suitable for every type of dry eye?
No. Similar symptoms can have different causes. Your clinician will assess suitability and discuss alternatives where appropriate.
How many treatments will I need?
The number and spacing of sessions are individual. Ask the team for a recommended plan and a written cost breakdown after your assessment.
Will I still need eye drops or home care?
You may do. In-practice treatment can be one part of an ongoing plan. Follow your clinician's advice about your existing care.
What should I tell the clinician beforehand?
Discuss your medical and eye history, medication, recent procedures and any skin concerns. The team will explain preparation, eye protection, potential side effects and aftercare for the proposed treatment.
What is the difference between radiofrequency and IPL?
Forma-I uses radiofrequency energy to produce controlled warmth around the eyelids. Lumecca-I uses pulses of light. They work in different ways and may be considered for selected cases of dry eye associated with meibomian gland dysfunction. Your clinician will explain the reason for each recommendation.
What will we discuss at my assessment?
Your symptoms, how they affect daily life, contact lens use, existing eye care, medical history and medicines all help build a picture of your eye health. The assessment guides whether treatment is suitable and what further examination or referral may be needed.
How should I prepare for treatment?
Ask the team for instructions for your planned treatment, including contact lenses, makeup, skincare and sun exposure. Tell your clinician about medication, skin conditions, recent tanning and previous eye or skin procedures. Do not stop prescribed medication unless your prescribing clinician advises it.
What about aftercare and returning to normal activities?
Your clinician will explain treatment-specific aftercare, possible side effects, sun protection and any restrictions before you proceed. Ask about driving, work and contact lenses when arranging your appointment so you can plan ahead.
Is this a permanent cure for dry eye?
We do not promise a cure or a particular result. Dry eye can need ongoing management. Treatment aims to improve symptoms in suitable patients, and your plan may still include home care, review appointments or further treatment.

Glasses Lab currently lists formal dry-eye assessments at Bromley and Beckenham. Contact the team to confirm where Envision treatment is available and arrange the appropriate appointment.

The staff at Glasses Lab in Beckenham are all very professional and I was very impressed by the optician who tested my eyes extremely thoroughly and took time to explain carefully what my options were for my new glasses .When choosing frames I was delighted by the selection and was encouraged to try on as many as I wished by Karolina who was able to advise me which frames would best suit my prescription.The only downside was that my new glasses took two weeks before they were ready but the wait was worth it as I am very pleased with my new glasses. Glasses Lab have been my opticians for the past few years. Really friendly staff, very professional and attentive. They have a great range of glasses to suit any budget. I've had a lot of compliments on my most recent glasses, even from complete strangers. I've told anyone that asked where I bought them, and I know two of them have actually bought glasses from them as a result. Highly recommend them. The staff at Glasses Lab in Beckenham are all very professional and I was very impressed by the optician who tested my eyes extremely thoroughly and took time to explain carefully what my options were for my new glasses .When choosing frames I was delighted by the selection and was encouraged to try on as many as I wished by Karolina who was able to advise me which frames would best suit my prescription.The only downside was that my new glasses took two weeks before they were ready but the wait was worth it as I am very pleased with my new glasses.
